Na Papa Surfboards- Gold Coast Aus.

Anyone have info on these boards? My wife picked up a 7’6" Mini Mal in San Clemente over New Years and loves it. The price was very reasonable and I must say it fits her perfectly. It has a domed deck with lower rails and the bottom runs in a single to double concave. It comes with clear lexan fins by World Fin Systems. I was a bit skeptical at first but after closer examination, the quality is better than many stock boards I see locally. She let me borrow it for a few waves and I had a great time. Paddles well and is very easy to control.

So, anyone have any input?

Yes that would be one of wun hunglo’s shapes and glassed by huflung dung.

Take it away Harry!

So they’re not made in Australia?

Fraid not, I know a guy who used to or still does shipping for them. so nup, china.

Bummer! She really likes the board so I don’t think I’m gonna say anything to her about it.

I must say that the shape, glass and airbrush quality on this particular board are pretty damn good. Even the pinlines are clean and straight. Uh Oh! :0

Hey Pato, all jokes aside, Na Papa and brands like them are the reason most of us guys seem a bit testy when the China boards come up. I knew a bit about them, enough, then I asked some guys down at work today more, basically, some guy with some money and no surfboard background, decided he wanted a piece of the action, he’s been importing them, at first set up a pretty big shop and warehouse[look maybe later, I don’t know], I would think pretty big overheads for a fly by nighter, anyway last reports, he’s gone broke and I do know his boards are in a steptoe and son type shop, read English hardcore second hand shop. I should’nt have to say, they were cheap and much cheaper now. I don’t know what this did to the local industry, can’t of helped an already struggling one. I don’t have a problem with the guy who has got himself big through whatever reason, then decides to outsource his work, it’s the oppurtunists that want to come in and make a killing at our expense, the same goes for shaping machines, no problem with a guy with too much work, it’s the guys that have done nothing , to quote Milchy ’ never have so many, gone so far,on so lttle ability’. The other ones well , I’ve gotta stop swearing, respect to almost all, H. ps there’s a pretty good reason the thing probably goes alright, there’s a lot of good boards around here to copy.

Harry,

What a class post…said it well…did not get agro …etc

Thanks Mate.

Harris,

Thanks for your kind response. I do appreciate it.

As many of you know, I make most of my own boards with the exception of a select few gems. This past year I’ve made an effort to eliminate my -Gulp- mass produced popouts; eg. Boardworks and Surftech. I only had one of each so it was a bit of a surprise to find out we just added another to the lineup. Especially one that is apparently now obsolete. Well, like I said, she likes it and sold two of her longboards to pay for it so I’m gonna let this one slide and not tell her.

BTW- I’m trying my hand at a new HWS. I’ll post in a separate thread tomorrow.

Thanks all,

Marc

Wun hung lo is probly good constructer not a shaper but makes a good replica of a nice surf craft. I’ve got a print of the mona lisa I’m proud of,
