I will be doing an interview with Nat Young sometime in March - Questions are welcome from people. I am going to take around 10 questions from listeners so just PM them to me or email worldsurfradio @ yahoo.com
Cool Simon! That should be really interesting…
My questions would be what’s his “go-to board” these days and how often does he drop by Swaylock’s.
Post a link to the interview when it’s done.
Warm regards,
Mike
Simon,
I had a wonderful opportunity last year to have lunch with Nat while he was on a book promotional tour in Redondo Beach. I had invited him to join the three living menbers of the original 1930’s Palos Verdes Surfing Club, for their weekly get together at Hennessey’s Redondo. He spoke with them about the 1930’s section of his book and was writing notes in the margin so as to update that section in the next printing. He gave each of them an autographed book, which I thought to be most gracious of Nat. I had brought along my 7’6" Liddle hull, and showed it to him after lunch. He spent 15 minutes going over the rails, tail, and fin. As he was checking it out, he shared stories of the late 60’s, testing the hulls developed by MacTavish, Greenough, and Keys. Just me and Nat. He talked of hanging with Liddle at Malibu Surfrider, and with Weber as well. He was most gracious to me and made the experience quite memorable. He was, and is still, one of my favorite surfers.
Say hello to him from Paul, friend of Tulie Clark, Fenton Scholes, and Moe Minie of the PVSC.
ask him what does he think of this young whipper snapper seppo with the same name as him?

A few years ago he surfed in the Quicksilver Legends contest at Makaha. I believe the surf pumped to 10’ or so at times for that event. Some were a bit out of shape, but I recall Nat charging. Could you ask about that event? Thank you!

Hey Natas,
that site is raging. geez there is some serious hatred for Nat going down in there.
If surfing is n extension of ones personality…well Gnat (real spelling) was known as “THE ANIMAL”
That has goota say something and should be a question asked of him.
