Hi, I really need some advice for my new board I’m kind of lost. I’m 6’0, 172 lbs and I will surf 3ft waves most of the time (not hollow or mushy, just normal). Currently I’m surfing a 5’11 18 2 1/4 squash, wide point more towards tail, single concave all the way, and when the wave is hollow is super good but when the wave is normal I kind of struggle to maintain speed throughout the turn. What I have in mind is something like: 5’10 swallow, single to double (maybe vee in the end), low entry rocker with a kick in the tail. But I really don’t know about rails and width. I surf for about 10-12 years and I consider myself a good surfer and I want something to continue to progress. I’m affraid of going too wide and thick and losing responsiveness. What about rails? These fuller rails will make the board stiff? lShould I go low boxy? Please help me!!!
Lotsa different boards and opinions on groveler type waves as you describe. If you’re buying off the rack, maybe your shop will let you demo a few shapes. If you’ve been surfing 12 years you should have some ideas of the boards that work well in your conditions. The other option is craigslist.
Maybe a little longer for a guy your size.
No worries I struggle with riders of the same mind.
5-10 to 6-1 or 2 is NOT huge.
From what you say I would look hard @ CI’s #4…
