Need Clark blanks in NJ/PA area

Looking to try my hand at building a couple boards. Is there anywhere in the Nj/PA area to buy blanks. It seems crazy to buy two blanks for $130 and then pay $85-130 in shipping? Is there a place you can walk in to get them locally?

Hey LL,

PA here and there’s nothing like that in the area - Closest would be NC (WRV). Might look in the archives for a local builder and piggyback an order.

Or, maybe try Heritage Surf in NJ (I think Brian is still shaping his own). Also Blue Planet surf (not sure of that name) may also be making their own. I’ve haven’t had much luck this avenue though.

Other than that, Surfsource seems to have the best deals for shipping to our area.

Best,

HerbB

i am on LI and would also order 2 if you want to order together – maybe get some more people and keep the shipping at a minimum – let me know -

There are a couple of people in the South NJ / Philly area that post here once in a while. I’d be willing to share a shipment if anyone is willing. I’m right outside of Atlantic City.

Hey - I am up in Monmouth County, NJ and will be looking to buy some supplies shortly. Typically I use Fiberglass Supply, but I’d be willing to use anyone if the shipping costs are less.

Lemme know:

Can you call your supplier and see if we could get a better deal if we all buy together? I would be happy to have it shipped to my house or a place of business, I would also be able to pay ahead. Maybe we could all order to a central location in NJ, and pay our own accounts on the phone?

I deal with surf source out of Florida. They’re pretty reasonable and very easy to get a hold of. I’ll try them sometime today.

Another thought is: EZfoam charges $85 (business) for shipping 1-12 blanks. If we were to get an order for <9 it would only cost us $10/blank. I have a friend that would let us ship to his loading dock so we get the business shipping. We then meet around Route 1 / Turnpike in Philly and pick up the boards. We could do I large order with everyone paying EZfoam direct before we ship.

It would also help to meet people for advice. I have all the tools (former woodworker), but I have never shaped a board or worked on foam. I am more worried about the “design” parts than the actual physical part. There must be a whole engineering / aerodynamic part of shaping that people do naturally.

I’m in it for the blanks, just let me know when everyone is ready. Searching the site will get you oodles of info on design and construction.

how would i get ahold of surf source? i tried the internet search thing, and came up with nothing…foam ez prices seem redicoulous for a small time shaper $85 shipped to a buisness + $25 for the box its shipped in i think…im also on the east coast and really need something better than that…WRV is at least a 4 hour drive each way, so thats probally no good either…but i guess fo $110 in gas i could do it ,but i really dont feel like riding up there

////nevermind about the surf source thing i just found them…

If you are still in a bind looking for blanks, drop me an email: JEHLAX17@aol.com. I can hook you up with a local shop where I live (Ship Bottom, NJ -Long Beach Island) who can get them from WRV for the regular price of a blank. The WRV truck stops by the shop at least once a month to drop off boards; therefor you would be able to get them at least one time a month.

I’d like to get in on any group shipments if you guys haven’t already done so. I’m thinking about getting 4 blanks and agree that foam-ez and fiberglass supply shipping are just too expensive to the east coast.

WRV, sounds like a great alternative though.

Jonathan;

I am still looking for blanks. May be a few months before I am ready. Thanks for the advice, I will send you an email when I am ready to order.

My brother has a house in Beach Haven and we surf off Berkley St. We are novices, but my 12yr son has serious potetial.

I was in the same boat as U are, I grew up outside Philly and started shaping in High School. If your looking to just pick up some blanks in NJ, try getting a hold of Paul Baymore (Fly Surfboards) outside of Sea Isle City, NJ or Vince Balasa (Planet Blue Surfboards) outside of LBI, both have hooked me up in the past. What U should do is just order your blanks direct from Clark Foam in FL, the average blank cost around $43 and shipping is only $50 for a box of 4 boards. There number is (321)259-1508. Hope this helps U out. There is also Kretzer Surfboards out of LBI, U can find there website online.

DM;

Good tips, thanks. I may give Clark a call, because that is much cheaper shipping than I have been quoted. May just get them from a local shop like you suggested.

Llifer, Check out sfoam if you would be interested in EPS blanks. Looks like shipping to NJ would be $100 for 8 pre- rockered blanks.

http://www.sfoam.com/

I would be interested in 2-4 blanks depending o how many others want to join in.

order from clark,call them first …have them mail you a blank catalog. i only live 6o mi. from them and i have blanks shipped all the time instead of makin the drive.good folks at melbourne.

Or,… Check out universal packaging in MD. You can play with their calculator here…

Looks like a 2’x8’x5" block of EPS would cost $40.

I just ordered a box of 4 Blanks yesterday, cost me $166 and shipping will be around $45. So if you order them direct from Clark Foam FL it shouldn’t cost U more then $200 for a box of 4 shortboard blanks.
