I am setting up another small shop. Mostly hardgoods and boards. Lots of skate as well. I need a good name and one that will work on clothing as well. Any suggestions PM me. If I use your name, I will send you a Keel fin. I will make a decision on the name by the end of next week. I already have a couple, but need to see whats out there.
Thanks in advance.

Where is your shop located? You could use a name based on the nearest surf break - like Zeroes Surf and Skate.
I also just started a surfboard company in Santa Monica specializing in retro-fish models from sizes 5’8" to 7’4". Retail prices start at $375 for the 5’8" quad fin. Let me know if you’re interested in carrying some fish models in your new shop (email is sales@9fishsurf.com ). Here’s a pic of the 6’2".
i love that pic of cheyne in japan. it’s inspiring – how 'bout…
Funky Buddha Surf Co.
I like the idea of using the local breaks name… or call it something universal…
“The Lineup” surf and skate shop
“Riptide” surf and skate shop
“Undertow” surf and skate shop
“Overtow”? surf and skate shop
or something completely off the wall…
“Fuzzy Logic” surf and skate shop
“Shfifty Five” surf and skate shop
“Ampersand” surf and skate shop - T-shirts have “&” as the logo
“The Flip Side” surf and skate shop
but whatever, these are just my crazy ideas… feel free to criticize, use, laugh at, modify any of them…

When I was makin’ money running rivers, there were two photographers in town.
One could really shoot. He had all the best gear, the angles, the lighting…his shop was called Watercolors.
The other guy hired college kids. He had a point & shoot with a big lens, and a tripod cemented into a rock. His shop was called Raft Photo.
Which one do you think people remembered? Found in the phone book?
Which one made money?

my mention of motive is from the heart
my store was Kapuna natural foods for years
I got a call from a guy one time who was named ambrose
his last name .
he pleaded with me to list my store in the phone book as ambrose’s
every one called it ambrose’s
and he had been gettin calls for years asking why he wasnt open
wher he was locted and such…
the revolutionary essence of
"natural foods ’ had faded
and when I finally accepted it
it was cool.
your own name is a fine name
historic as well
Solosurfer is as poinient
and catchy too.
the “who the heck is this guy?”
is immediately answered
with either of these
monikers.
cop to an identity
you dont need to reinvent your self
be yourself
you are a credible organism.
this is where contemporary business has gone awry
Integrity and character are reasons to do business
not things you can buy or sell
these are things you share
products and merchandise are things you sell

Hey Brose,
I mostly agree with your position, and I think Solo’s (or real name) is a good thing.
However, the #1 rule of selling is ‘know your customers’
If Solo’s customers are young surf/skate punks,
then its more about the brand and merchandise…
those customers wouldnt give a ratz about the owner,
give’m cool brand name stuff at fair/cheap prices and theyll come.
Very different customer base between natural foods and surf/skate…night and day…
Great names being thrown around…Silly gets the honorable ‘multitude’ award.
Btw Solo, forgot to mention…good luck with the store!

What’s in a name? Would a rose not smell as sweet by any other name? Run a good shop and it won’t matter if you call it “Poopmeisters”. The folks will beat your door down. BUT…You gotta have LOCATION! Location. Location.
My 2 cents…

SSSSS
(Solo Surf Skate Shirt Shop)
How about
“Toe Up” surf shop?
“v-eight” surf shop (as in 8oz volan)
“the stock” surf shop (as in hobie stock model 1st mass produced board ever)
“prehistoric” surf shop (vintage style boards etc)
“floaters”
“a-frame” (puts you 1st in the yellow pages)
Thats all Ive got.
Tray
I kind of thought “Pit Bulls” would be cool.
