I definitely would like to talk to you about your opinions on some of the other materials and combinations I have in mind to use.
“I think a really finely woven bamboo/silk cloth if it can be found in china somewhere might make a better lamination than pure bamboo jersey or hemp cloth.”
I was actually talked out of a bamboo/silk because “silk gets weaker when it gets wet”
I wanted the blend for the very reason you mentioned.
Can you give me your opinion of the structural integrity of a blend like that after “wet out”
Do you think the weakness is negated due to the hardening factor?
I want to talk to you about some of the other stuff in your post…but I have to feed my daughter right now.
I wish I saw it earlier. It has a real positive vibe going on. During my move it was crazy so it was hard to try and ship anything over to you at the time.
Todd scored a whole bunch of XPS and my Daughter scored a Fender Stratacaster Guitar. (Thanks Todd!)
Now that my move has been over of some time now. I can try and send you a block of XPS 24" x 92" by 5.25" Dow Blue. I have a few in my storage unit.
I really like building boards with the XPS Blue. My Dad’s company has a Factory in Waipahu. How far are you from there? I will check this week about putting a billet on the next container going over there. You would have to pick it up. I think you know that my family lived on Oahu from 1977 - 1983. Hopefully I can give you some aloha as you do for many others!
Well Oneula(red sands) Beach Park is in Ewa Beach which about 5 miles and 6-7 stops lights from Waipahu. Too bad it’s some times an hour or more just to get in and out of Ewa Beach to get to Waipahu so we can get to the freeway and fight traffic for another hour or so…
Thanks for the thought but you don’t have too
I know it’s a hassle getting things to hawaii…
we just picked up a block of 2lb to play around with this “timberflex” dealie but I’ll still use blue or precisionboard for rails versus solid wood it’s just so much easier to work with and shape. I love the way blue shapes. Its the closest to a PU foam experience I’ve seen so far. Like my brother says… it cuts like butter instead of 1lb cottage cheese EPS.
Gonna start on some EPS/Blue combinations to keep the weight down.
A blue core with solid cedar or paulownia rails and a bamboo or cypress skin seems to be a good communication. I just like tapping on blue and listening to it
here’s a couple old ones:
a 7’4" blue cored balsa/paulownia cedar railed Stubb-Vector with rotating fins
A 6’8" blue cored poplar/cedar quad flyer with wiliwili nose and tail blocks
both ride better than most of my EPS boards definitely heavier with 1/8" skins
