5’8” x 19” x 2.5, double wing, bat tail, thruster, 7 deg cant side fins
Groveler board for 2-4 ft waves on the east coast
Moderate rocker with generous flat section under front foot
Been a fun board in the days I’ve used it, easy to paddle, fast, reactive on turns. On small days it doesn’t bog under my feet as well, but been small in Jersey so the waves are small and it hasn’t been worth paddling a short board into them. And, I’ve been stuck at an internship so haven’t had much of an opportunity to surf unfortunately. Hope you guys are catching more waves than I am this summer!
Not my style, but well done.
Thanks, wanted to make something a bit more funky and out there. I find it to be more fun to be creative when making a board for yourself, like an experiment.
good on you, I think that’s the right attitude in making your own boards.
thanks, stay tuned for more weird boards!
Nice job, I like boards that aren’t the norm! Beautiful dog too!!!
I don’t necessarily think it’s weird. When I was younger and could ride little boards, I preferred more conservative shapes. Mostly rounded pins and diamond tails. Although “bat tails” have become pretty norm these days.
Thanks, she likes to surf too
Yeah for sure. Maybe not so much weird, but instead more uncommon or unconventional. Its interesting to see the trends come and go and I’ve for sure seen more bat tails or altered diamonds and swallowtails, but in Jersey right now they’re definitely still rare so lots of people have found it to be weird! I find that surfboard customers have the “if it’s not broken don’t fix it” mentality so the more traditional boards stick, while the alternative are rare.
True. Certain basics though will always have a place, but they can be tweaked and updated. I see Jersey on Fox Weather once in awhile. Seems like there is always some kind of wave to be had. The only “real” spot I have seen them pan across was the Casino. Looked fun. Without giving away secrets; What general area do you frequent for waves?
There for sure are some waves to be had here. I think of jersey like an underrated version of the outer banks. I’m heading back home from my internship to surf this weekend because of a storm that’s coming though with waves measuring 7ft at 8 seconds on Saturday. Unlike California and some other areas, we don’t have to worry about a crowded lineup when it’s pumping… only when it’s a warm summer day and the schools come out with foamies. Few good spots would be Island Beach State Park (which gets super heavy), spring lake, LBI, brigantine, Atlantic City, ocean city, etc.
