new board question

i’m going to get a new board soon from my shaper todd proctor- it’ll be a cross between a shortboard and grovellor. i’m 5’9" 155 or so, and the board will be 6;2" 18.9 2 5/16 full boxy rails but the tail pulled in more than a board this type would be, to hold better in overhead surf. do these dimensions sound good?? they also have to support a 5 mil hood boots and gloves in the winter…should i try red x? i’ve heard good things, but my other boards have fcs, so i don’t know if i should gradually make the switch or just stay with fcs. i think i would like red x

As for the board being able to handle the excess rubber, It more depends on you. My youngest son (6’ 180lbs.) rides everything from a 5’11" fish to 10’ cruisers. You can do it!! I am tring the new Red-x fins on some of my boards, The two most important features, the fins can snap without doing any significant damage to your board, & the have some cool ajustments.

i totally trust him as he has shaped a bunch of boards for me in the past- but when we started talking about this board i forgot to mention about the extra rubber so i was just wondering if that was enough volume for east coast waves…from what i’ve been riding it should be perfect! thanks for the help with the redx, i’m gonna try em.

Dave, if you like fcs, you will LOVE Red X! It is very cool to be able to move your fins for and aft.
