Just shaped my first board 6’7’’ single fin for a friend. It came out way better than I expected, but I dont want to mess it up glassing it. It would be great if I could get some glassing tips for a first time shaper so I dont go into glassing in complete darkness. Thanks. Oh, the rails are hard from the tail to about about 16 inches from the tail at which poing they go softer with a tucked under edge. Also, my parents are gonna spring for a shaping room, its gonna be about 12X16…is that big enough?
Jake: I would suggest you check the Archives under glassing. There are hundreds of tips there that might be of use. If this is your first attempt at glassing, I would suggest you consider a sun cured resin or better yet a clear epoxy such as Resin Research - no surprise gelling! The space sounds great for shaping. You might want to see if your folks will build you a separate glassing room as well. Hope this helps some. Patrick
thanks for the tips. I have heard of that: UV resin, I just didnt know what, if any drawbacks there are to using it. No luck for a glassing room, I guess i should just feel lucky to get my own shaping room
