A thruster. What a concept.
This is board #25. I decided to shape a buddy a blend between a couple of his favorite merricks.
I took the overall rocker of the MBM+ as well as the outline, but kept the thickness and tail of the Flyer. It’s actually a bit thicker at the mid than the Flyer.
I gotta tell ya…thrusters, why the hell are they so expensive? I mean seriously. This thing took about an hour and a half to shape, dial it in. I’ll be hotcoating it tonight and sanding tomorrow. I think I’ll bang out a couple more of these before I head back to resin panels on longboards…just to boost my confidence ; )
I just did a 6oz top and a 6oz bottom. Future boxes. I picked up the future install kit. That thing is great. I’ll post some more pics this weekend when it’s all polised up.

Just realized the pics didn’t work…ugh.
www.theanchored.blogspot.com if you’d like to see them! Thanks!
Andy
looks good from what I can tell with the small pics.
I think they are so expensive because lots of people want them, and lots of people want a CI logo and will pay 800buck for it. another plus to building your own!
Love the shape. I must ask…what is the material called that you put on the rails (the black stripes)? Does it serve a purpose aside from asthetics? Where do you get it?
Hey Jeff, thanks. Hotcoating today on my lunch break and tonight. It should be ready to go by Saturday. The Rail material is carbon fiber strips. It’s about 4 bucks a foot. Although it does have some purpose- I think again it’s mainly for asthetics. I don’t follow the trends in thrusters much, but I do know people that ride them will immediately go for something that is “different” looking than the other thousands of white toothpick boards around them. It does definitely add a look to the board. I imagine doing a cloth inlay on that area would turn out pretty cool too.
As far as the purpose…the concept is I guess to strengthen up the rails since they can generally be really thin in volume right there. From what I hear it really does strenthen it up, and stiffen it up, and can cause a buckle right in front of the strip over time. Lets face it though…thrusters aren’t made to last so lets go with what strenthens it up and looks cool!
