Whats up all, Somethin new from the secret volcano lair. I had begun doing a kind of disk bonzer thing (I am sur the CHIP remembers) but it had a small accident with the trade winds grabbing it and sending it flying into my neighbors yard. DONE GONE LOST! So i figured time to move on and make something new
I stole the template for this board off a picture of a TC board by Rapoza and used the APS 300 software to outline it. I then took a screen picture and put it in Adobe Illustrator and blew it up to the correct size. I had the original nose, tail and middle measurement and when all was said and done I had come within 1/16 of all original measurements.
The dimentions are 6’ x 20 x 2 1/2 with an unlimited center box. Endless Mahalos to Kokua for the gloss recipe and Austin for constant inspiration to do resin swirls and tints.
my bad i didn’t see the other disk post! not trying to steal any glory, sorry guys
I like the resin work. Is that a full length cloth inlay? Good Work. Cant wait till august when i get to go back to hawaii.

It’s a single piece of cloth if that is what you mean and It ends right at my cut lap. $1 a yard 100% cotton that i got from the dollar store! I was going to do another tint on the deck untill i ran into the fabric the afternoon after i laminated the bottom. when i saw it i knew it would look good with the bottom. Thanks for the compliment Austin your glass jobs are the best.

SO YOU REALLY ARE SERIOUS THIS TIME ?? Skels mate … dropping paint tins on noses of boards , boards flying over neighbour’s fences [never to be seen again ?!] , circular boards with pygmys sitting next to them … an avatar of a dood from ? ridgemont high? … [ I like this surfing ‘avatar’ photo you got going ,now by the way !] So… we will truly NEVER, ever, get to see the "smoke swirled bonzer " ? [Or, is THIS board it , minus runners, in another size, on THIS thread ??] A minute’s silence for the death of your bonzer , if this is true … [though I doubt it … I reckon one of the cones accidentally fell on it , and set it on fire , didn’t it ?!] ben when truth becomes stranger than fiction , it’s hard to tell “reality” sometimes ! [especially when you post a yes I hate swaylocks post on a thread …keep up the funny stuff , you weird man / keep up the weird stuff , you funny man !] Well, WHAT will your next project be , I wonder ?? […the mind boggles …]
I had been drinking a little when i posted last and was exagerating CHIP, I was moving my glassing stands into my shapping room and put the board outside on some saw horses with a 2x4 on it and the trade winds grabbed it (it has been pretty gusty) and it flew into my neighbors yard and into their chainlink fence ripping a huge piece of foam out of nose and rail with holes and gravel all over it. It was seen again but never destined to reach it’s final glory. Too bad, I have never even ridden a bonzer but for all speed bumps i had with that board I think it was destined to not happen.
Seems like you are stoked on the pineapple, I need to feed off some of your enthusiasm and start the bonzer project over from scratch. I am going to christen the disk today and see how she goes and will post some results.
Happy Shaping
if the disk goes , stoked .
if the disc-o sucks , put on some REAL music ,
cut two side fin box slots , make some canted runners… and have a bonzer time ol’ cobber, " M-M-M-m-m-m-a-a-a-at-e ! "
[if it has double concaves , you’re laughing !]
I just returned from a morning trip north and got a few more on the pineapple [with 7" back fin , 3 1/2" side fins again today] …HOWLING offsore up there , and crowded , but the occassional nearly head-high peak coming through .
ben
I want to make a 4 8 by 22.5 inchx2.75 inch thick disk with symetrical rocker and symetircal template then stick some sponge rails on it a ride it with those jelly fins how sweet and funny would i look?
howdy,
i really appreciate the photos of the disk you made.
how wide are the nose and the tail?
how does a board like that ride? ive never ridden one, but it seems like it would be incredible, to have the paddling of a longboard (kinda), but the speed of a shortboard.
im very curious.
thanks,
bobby
I finally got some waves on the disk earlier this week (we have been suffering in hawaii from horrible winds). Board goes exactly as i thought it would with a very old school style, it really feels like a longboard when i am riding it as you can do small pumps on it, but for the most part the board just races the sections on it’s own. for contours i did flat bottom with tons of vee in the tail through the fins so it goes rail to rail great. It is definately a mushball machine and tons of fun for just cruising small surf and you scoot up and do cheater fives on it to race sections.
I want to make another one with deeper single to double to vee out the tail and see if i can make a more responsive drivy shortboard feeling one that will work better in sectiony beachbreaks, but i like this one as is for battling longboarders in Town.
Not sure where you are at poser, but if you are on Oahu you are more than welcome to borrow the board and try it out (I would love to get first hand critique) If not i still have my template saved in Adobe Illustrator and will give it to you if you want to try making your own.
thank you skeletor. i really appreciate that. unfortunately, im in new york, but if im not successful on the west coast in graduate school , ill be somewhere in your neck of the woods shortly after.
what blank did you use?
thanks again.
Whats up poser
I used a clark 6’2 C, you can prettymuch make any kind of fish out of one of those blanks. Good luck!
