New EPS shaping tool

The other day i was working inside my yacht, fairing surfaces. There is a frame that is made from eps covered with glass it forms a type of ring frame, any way it doesn’t go all the way up to the deck head, structurally its fine but it would look better if it went all the way up.

So I grabed some eps leftovers from the board stock and rough cut it to size, I then needed to make it round on the top and concave on the bottom. I reached down to grab the sanding block and instead grabed a wire brush, looked at thought duh, then why not give it a try.

By pulling it towards yourself it has to be the ulimate eps rough out tool it did the job in half the time it would have taken with a sanding block.

Back in the workshop I have one of those kits you get at the hardware store, you know six different size wire brushes for $6.50. Well I have now discovered that i have the perfect kit course through to fine eps tools that don’t clog.

interesting idea. Put up a picture of them? Just a plain ol’ wire brush?

I LIKE it! Got several wire brushes laying around, too.

Gonna give this a shot. Also gonna buy a pack of (4? 6? cant remember) small wire brushes at Bunnings ($2 a pack) and try them.

Thanks sabs!

I’m just getting ready to cut a couple of concaved decks. I think I’ll give it a try. Thanks for the idea.

Hi Greg

Heres a selection and a pic of the boat thrown in.

Its a rough out tool but with practice i think fine work could be ok too

I was going to do an action shot but the bats in the camera need charging

Does it work as good as surform on PU?

well, a regular old wire brush. very good.

The one on the left would shape a concave deck, I’ll bet. thx
