I red on a local surf site (surfcorner.it) that Keahana, a dutch company, has introduced two new materials for surfboard construction.
A new epxoy water based (!) resin and a new kind of EPS that has more percentage of air in it so when you ride a board made of it “its’ like surfing on the air” (these are not my words, is what i red on the site.
The nice thing about it is that these materials are more eco-friendly, as they are less toxic than normal EPS or normal epoxy resin.
Anyone knows anything about it? Anyone has tried their materials?
Water used in epoxy systems are used in place of a solvent. All the epoxy systems used on surfboards are high solids and don’t contain solvents. Therefore water based epoxy doesn’t really make sense as it would in coatings for instance.
Lighter weight EPS has always been around. This is nothing new. Most builders use a higher density for a more solid feeling board and break strength.
