congratulations cyrus. that trailer is compelling & full of joy & stoke. i look forward to watching the film, for sure. yeeeewwwww!

Cyrus,

One of the neat things about the internet is being able to communicate with people from all over the place. I watched your trailer, which I thought featured high quality photography, but at the same time it did arouse in me a reaction I have had watching several other DVD on alaia. The DVD I have watched all certainly portray the stoke of riding an alaia, however, after a while there is a sameness to seeing people ride small waves. I would like to offer a somewhat alternative perspective for consideration.

From a viewer’s perspective, there are now quite a few DVD and Youtube clips of alaia being ridden. Will the DVD that you are working on take someone from scratch to finish in all the stages of how to make an alaia? Also, I think alaia being ridden in a variety of conditions, from big stormy waves to hollow beachbreaks, would both demonstrate the verstaility of the designs and offer something different. I’m sure a variety of approaches to riding alaia would also be of interest to others.

Hopefully I don’t sound negative.

regards

Bob

lincolnlog,

Beautiful. I have always really enjoyed your photography and film, this looks like some sweet icing to the cake.

Tom is a real character that will always be pleasure to watch and learn from. Super stoked!

I personally will add that these new alaia’s (parabolic with round nose and tail) have a movement to them that is so different than any other surf craft. Almost brings to mind snowboarding, in shape of board and in lines being drawn, it is pleasure to watch the evolution of this new style from a primitive evocation. Much thanks for sharing!!

Cyrus

That looks really cool. I visited Tom back in November and picked up an alaia from him. I have been absolutely loving it and am gonna pick up a blank from his brother soon and shape another. Would love to come down to SD some time and go for a surf on them.

Lincolnlog,

How long until your movie is out? I’d love to buy a copy and see what I can muster up in my garage.
