New member posting limitations

Preventing new members from replying on their own threads is causing them to keep starting new ones. It seems like this limitation is backwards. Wouldn’t it be better if new members were able to reply but not start their own new posts?

Only til they have 15 points, which really doesn’t take long at all. Starting new threads no big deal, in the meantime.

Makes sense to me, this way they can start their own threads but can’t post-bomb others’.

Agreed with ghostshaper. It must be frustrating to come here and not even be able to post. Wasn’t shapaholic the one that inspired this anyway? Why not start them off with 15 or 0 and when one gets below the threshold then limit their privleges.

It is an odd rule. But, I think insanecutback is on to something. While it must be frustrating for new members to be unable to post a followup on their own topic, it does serve to reign in those types who may not be able to STFU when needed. 15 points aren’t hard to come by. I wish there was a system to lock out habitual, compulsive posters such the one I don’t care to name.

No offense to the mods who do a great free job, but I suppose cutting someone off would be a mod’s job…

How does one get points…  As I now see, there is a point to them at first…  And, as pointed out, if one comes here, and wants some q’s answered, what would they have to do to get the 15 points needed to post on their own, and/or is it any thread at first?
