Only new to swaylocks and home shaping. Started to shape my first board with a good mate who shapes in his home bay, but want to keep shaping at my house after board 1. Looking at building the shaping stand that green light surf supply has on thier site.
I built individual buckets. That enables positioning the racks shorter and longer as necessary. Easier to move and stores more compactly.
(2) 5-gallon buckets
bag of cement.
Add some gravel
Bolt (3) 2x4s together (you end up with a 4x6) and sink in the bickets and fill with cement
Add the "U"s as per the Greenlight instructions.
Or, bolt a length of 1" pipe on each side of your uprights and use a pvc pipe elbow with another short length at the top. Swivel out for shaping, swivel in for glassing. That’s what I did.
That’ll hold you for a couple years, but the bottom bead on the buckets will eventually wear out and you’ll have to shim them to make them lay flat.
The real trick is to get some old steel wheels from the junkyard and use those for your base. That’s what I’d do if I was going to build new stands.
