New toys...most of a quiver

Here is a new quiver of long boards, and a fish. These are the 2nd 3rd and 4th surf boards I’ve made. Thanks to everyone who wrote about compsands. Just tons of great stuff out here. Everything I’ve learned here is going to really help me as I go onto ski and snowboard building this fall. I tried a little of everything from Burt’s original post to benny1’s check list, and I adapted processes to meet my abilities and shop situation.

8’x 23 7/8”x 2 7/16”x 20”n x 16 3/4” compsand fun board/mini mal. This board is cool. Paddles as well as my 9’er. I can even stand up on flat water. But I end up knee deep in the water by the time I get there. Then the buoyancy takes over and knocks me off. Can’t wait to get this one on a wave.

10’5” x 28” x 3 ½” comsand possible SUP. I hope I kept the rails small enough to make it surf well. This board has great glide when paddled by hand. More of a super tanker than anything else. I can dam near walk the whole thing on flat water before I fall off.

6’ 4 ¾” fish. I think I may have totally messed up this board. The 8” fin boxes were not the thing to do. Not too many fins available for that type of board and I’m finding I really suck at making my own.

I apologize for the photos. I have a good digy camera this time, but still suck at using it.

Enjoy and really thanks for all of the help… even if you didn’t know you did.

Got these a little out of order.

Nice work. I hope I can pull of something that looks half as good, assuming I can get my sh$t together. How’d you decide on the shape of the tail on the fish? Any particular reason?

I like the squirt boats in the background too.

Skis and boards? Have you been hanging out at skibuilders? Wonder if we’ve had a conversation there… The internets aren’t usually a small world.

Thanks, the tail of the fish is a template I made for a kiteboard idea I have yet to finsh. No real reason. Does it look goofy? Kind of a copy of the old swallow tail winterstick.

HaaHaa, didn’t notice the boats in the background. How do you know about squirt boats? Totaly esoteric kayak designs.

Yep, been hanging out there too. I go by Hafte there as well. That board seems to go a bit slow so I don’t check it too often. Have you made a press yet? I’m going to stick to bagging for a while, and see how thing hold up.

I know about squirt boats cause I know more about kayaking than surfing, having spent a good portion of my youth in Colorado. Though I’ve never been in a squirt boat.

I guess it is a small world after all. I go by “collin” on skibuilders too. I haven’t build a press since I’m all talk and no action. And the presses are too expensive to do right. I’ve been toying with the idea of vac bagging and then putting the mold in another chamber/bag to run at positive pressure. Maybe it’ll work…

Are you still in Colorado? This is getting weird cause I have friend, Oliver who is a squirt boater, in Denver that I boat with that has mentioned a friend named Collin he went surfing with a couple of years ago. Who is a kayaker as well…

No way…

Not me, I’m in Boston [not that I know why]. World’s not that small I guess.

Good luck build’n more toys.
