New UM 6'4"=Fed EX BULL SH IT

I just got this board yesterday, it’s a UMIKE 6’4", bought it off of ebay. I was so stoked and couldn’t wiat for it to get here. My mom had it shipped to her work, well the fed ex guy came in wit a beat up azz box(1st pic). The lady who takes care of shipments there took one look at it and paged my mom, she was trying to open it to look at it and he got an attitude with her and told her she couldn’t open it, well this woman is like 60 years old so she get’s really pissed and says that if he keeps treating her like that she’s gonna kick his azz. So they get it out of the box and look at it(the nose was sticking out of the box like in the pic and the box was beat to hell, the tail was bubble wrapped)the don’t see any dings(out of the ordinary) and they reluctantly accept it, knowing that if they send it back it will get beat up more and we will have more problems. So…she takes the board for a guy who works there that surfs to look at it, he looks at it and says he doesn’t see any dings that bad(tail still bubblewrapped), my mom says ok, so later when she gets home she takes off the bubblewrapping and the tail is beat to *****(just like the box)(pic 3). The guy that we bought it from was supposed to put insurance on it(we payed 8 dollars extra for it), so my question to you guys is, have you had experience with placing a claim on something like this for insurance, I am worried that because they accepted it I won’t get insurance for it and I will have to get it repaired. Do you guys think that it is even worth claiming it or should I just forget about it because there is no chance of me getting insurance $$$?

P.S.-How much would it cost to repair that ding?

Thanks for INput

very minor, just fix it I say. How much did it cost to ship?

bought it on E-BAY? for 17000$ 0r 38.00…the good deal included the Krappy packing and the ding repair karma…fix it or donate it to the church of the outside set, some needy kid will remember you forever…charge the packing scientist the ding repair only if you e-payid more than 300.00…ambrose…next case…the great Favad has SPOKEN

Fix it…less hassle that way…you will have more aggravation trying to get them to fix it for you or get any money…can’t believe the nose wasn’t snapped off…bunch of dorks…peace and waves…

ding repair is good for the soul… how do you know it wasn’t that way when the idiot packed it??? Fix it and go surfing…

and the tail is beat to *****

Hmmm, think it will affect the way the board works? Looks pretty shot to me. Sheeez… put a frigging sticker over it and go surf. It’s a shortboard anyway, you’ll probably put your foot through the deck before the tail starts to turn yellow. -Carl

I would put some legs on it and make it a coffee table! Short boards are disposable anyway. here’s a tip: “Never have a board shipped from a seller on EBAY!!”

While I have never bought a surfboard I have bot many other things on eBay. Only once did I ever need the insurance. It wasn’t as big of a hassle as I expected though. Here’s what you got to do:

Get the proof of insurance from the seller. It’s like a receipt that proves insurance was payed for. (My seller emailed me a scanned version and I printed it out and it worked fine, but… you never no anymore)

Take it to the nearest FedEx office, show them your proof of insurance, and your proof of damage(your pictures will come in very handy for this, as well as your beat-all-to-hell board)

All I had to do after that was answer some questions, and they figured it all out.

It wouldn’t be a bad idea to bring your Mom or the Lady from the office if at all possible.

Good luck, if any thing, the money could be used for a little well needed ding repair, not to mention that tail.

would you have bought that board if you knew it was damaged? no, was it damaged in shipping? probably. looks unacceptable to me. The guy you won the auction from said he had it insured. if it’s not to late go down to fed-x with the board and the box, they need to see the box it came in and demand compensation. also I am pretty sure anything you buy on ebay is insured to a certin amount but there is a deductible… if the auction dude said he bought insurance but didn’t get it, give him really bad feed back but beware he can also give you bad feedback. or just fix it and forget about it.

Uncle Mike is a cool guy. his glass shop (Sugar Mill Glassing) is top notch. I was just in there today checking on my boards.

Either way its a pain in the @$$ but Fed-ex and Ups are not as anal for repairs under $100…so that way you can try and get the cost of the board down or cover the repair cost. Unfortunately the shipper has to handle the claim. Really you should have sent it back, he should have refunded you and then the Shipping co. reimburses him. So if you keep the board, he submits the claim they then pay him and he’s gotta pay you. It sucks! You should def. be able to get something though…

bring it to a shop and have the tail fixed. $50 +or-. The rest of the board is in good shape and odds are since its a used shortboard it should be known that it will be worth its weight in shit in about 6 months and their will be many future dings unfortunately.
