Newbie needs help buying a board...

Has anyone tried or ride one of those BIC ‘plastic’(ACS) long boards? how does it compare to ‘regular’ fiberglass boards? . I’m curious b/c there’s a used one for sale in my area but I don’t know much about them - how they perform etc? It was advertised having a ‘beveled’ rail on the bottom edge and ‘ding-proof’. Any input is appreciated.

There is a pro longboarder in our area that won one at a contest. He surfed it for a few days when he got home. Well he ripped on it. Then I think he could rip on a 2X4. If you are looking for a first time board and the price is right, go for it. At least you will reduce the dings that you get from learning how to carry something that is sticking out 5 feet in front of you and 4 feet behind you. After you get that out of your system, got to a shaper and have a real board made. Good luck.

I’ve got a 9’ bic and it is a great board to learn on and to teach other people on. I just put in a 9.75 Greenough stage 6 fin in it and I am very happy with the results. A board by a local shaper would be the best thing but if it is just for learning and messing around it works. -Kevin
