Newbie's way to use sandpaper scraps

After cutting out disc after disc for my sanding pads, I’ve wound up with a bunch of trim scraps. I’ve used them bare handed, with foam block, on wood, etc. The size always makes the awkward to use. Being cheap, I can’t throw them away. I was in Home Depot and noticed the drywall sanding blocks. For $6 I thought I might find a use.

The sanding block was a little too wide for the scraps and and the Stick-E wouldn’t stay on the foam backing. It kept pulling off with the paper. I fixed it by cutting a 1/4" off each side, beveling the ends of the foam, and spray glueing some canvas to the foam.

Now it’s a great tool. The best manual sanding tool I’ve got and all my scraps get used. I’m a happy sander. A small detail that makes things go better.

Innovative, and sweet.

Nice

I stick it to tongue depressors or flast sticks, cut to different shapes, come in real handy for sanding small intricate areas, think leash loops and fin tips/bases ect.

I try to re-use any scrap material I can.

Nice. Yah I put on all sorts of stuff. Strips of woods, dowel rods, etc. One thing I like to use is red rubber plumber’s gasket. Makes a good backing and it’s cheap. It comes in foot square sheets at Home Depot. It’s about 1/8" thick and is easy to cut. On the bigger tools, I’ll glue some of that to a block or strip of wood and then Stick-E over that. It’s pretty firm rubber but it’s just soft enough to help pad it a little.
