This mornings lightening strike: no glass, finless blackball beater or grom board exposed cork, cork composite stringers, (designed to be channel fins), carbon innegra exposed corecork sandwich deck, EXPOSED DOW XPS HULL. OK it begins; this will be somewhat of a build thread, might drag on because I’m busy, but I’m really fired up and appreciate all input. Inspired by my son, and staring at his morey soft top this morning thinking it might be 5 more years before I build him a “real board” so what’s next for him?

Inspiration, fischer, 3rd birthday in 3 weeks.
Stoked to see this one!
Right on Drew
Drew,
Don’t forget the clear port hole sized viewing option for the flat days.

why no fins for the grom ? I like the finless stuff alot but curious to know why …

Finless because of the build, not really the grom. No fiberglass on bottom… Nothing to stick a fin to.
Drew it up on the deck, ill show you why later. Greg, if you read this, some of the outline comes from that Dang Slotted twinnie you made for Tory that he considers the best fish ever, board has pencil marks from at least good handful of N.FL shapers. 5’5" 19 haven’t decided tail shape, prolly wing Rounder. Plotted “fin placement” and outline then used laser to plot cork stringer placement.

I wish Charlie, our water in the oldest city looks like yoo-hoo!!!
Wow, Drew. You’re on a roll. I’m amazed at your creativity and willingness to try new stuff. I’ve been thinking a lot about how to make small boards for my 4-yr-old. I stripped the top off a bodyboard and reshaped the outline with a hot knife, then vac’d the top back on. I used the FCS soft board plugs to make it a little 3’6 twin.
Now, I’m working on the solid cork board and am wondering if I should try to put in some fins and epoxy them to the bottom, using a patch of 3/8" thick bamboo flange and a mortise and tenon. This is going to be 4’0 x 21.5. More for me when I surf San O with my son this summer.
G-shaper,
You should consider a Red-x box. It will be connected internally deck to bottom. No need for fiberglass patches.

Charlie

so the foot pedel lowers the wire brilliant no doubt about swaylocks great stuff drew
**what length is that table and what gauge is the wire
**
cheers huie
Hahaha, no way simpler than that. Built this table in '04. There’s an eye hook at one end, the floating handle attached to other end of wire with j hook. Extension cord split in half to reach both ends with alligator clips. The big wooden guides make the straight center cut possible, key was iron on cabinet edging. cuts at 55volts. There are wings make possible to lay wider mtl on table. the table is badass though, on casters so I roll it all around factory, its powered too with an outlet. Usually covered with particle board and masonite, use it for cutting exotics, wetting out flat parts, etc. Don’t do much stringering lately:), I should show you my hotwire band saw, she’s a beauty.
Oh, and skateboard griptape is crucial on the table surface. Also on planer grips, etc…
Okay, I’m not ashamed to say it… You’re my hero Drew… =)
Can we see that too?

Not much accomplished on this project today. Got stringers cut from cork scrap (16" wide sup scrap not really good for much). Offcuts from the fg box, super 77, and trim. Ready to glue up. I’ll use NEW ICW Composites Epoxy (plug) and milled fiber/cotton thickeners and “spread n clamp” this thing later. Prolly come back after he goes to bed, loosing sleep over this build.
Chris, you’re rediculous I’m just another hack.
Ps what are these points good for? Are they like Marlboro miles? Can I get a foamy NASCAR hat with swaylocks on it???
