Cool wouter, thanks for sharing, wonder whats holding my board up? Pic is driving me crazy cuz I wanna reach out and catch it!

So major bummer on this board! Dang I wish I would have left it bare like original plan. My friend who worked with me back in 05 to develop the silverback process lost everything and sold out his business,…shocker huh? The first dozen or so that we sprayed, including that piece I routinely beat the crap out of, were sick. I hadnt put it on a"shortboard" yet. New guy fed me this; "yeah I know what you and mikey were spraying, this stuff its better blah blah, whatever. So I’m looking at buying my own gun and unit but decided to let ding dong spray fischers birthday board with his stuff. Brought him a test piece and everything. Long story short went to pick it up this morning, this guy sprayed it with some bs primer (we never used a primer) that of course ate up the foam, proceeded to coat over with product, looked life bad acne. Thank God I used dow instead of bead!! I kept cool until he goes “well what have you got into it, just a little foam”. …showed my ass after that. Shook hands, kept my chin up and proceeded to recovery. Didnt turn out that bad, got some spray can bed liner, coated just fine, then got some gangster ass gold rattle and coated bedliner while it was tacky. Project “saved”, at least for his birthday, I’ll remake this before summer. Pics:

I would call this a good pic of how it looked before I fixed her up. I asked him if he sprayed the board at the same time as the sample, he knew he was busted because the dang oak leaves were all over both parts!!

Sorry to hear that Drew, your work is great saw a board you did with cork at Blue Sky very nice cant wait to see more form ya!

The gold is actually pretty dope. Its cool. I always think of a Winston Churchill quote in times like these; “success is the ability to go from failure to failure without loosing momentum”.

aah, what a heartbreak, although i totally dig your perspective and the winston churchill quote.  your kid will be uber-stoked regardless and not know the difference, and it’s all about the journey not the destination.  you’ve got the process now, and the board is still a spaceship.  it’s just a spaceship with gold spray paint over bedliner (maybe it just needs some spinner rims, haha).  i wasn’t familiar with your silverback process in the first place, so i wasn’t sure what to expect.  i couldn’t find an old thread with references to it, but search can be challenging here at sways.

another perfect example of how you can control almost everything you handle yourself, and then when you get that outside work you roll the dice.

keep the faith, brother.

wow!!  you are a master of self control and restraint.  I can say with 100% centainty that I would not have reacted as calmly....especially when that 'genius' said all you have into it is foam!!!  WTF!!  did he think it came shaped that way...ignorance...thankfully he shouldn't be around too long..

that churchill quote is priceless and is literally hanging in my tiny humble shop..

Haha cbg, it does need spinners! he’s all ate up on pirates, its a pirate party, I’ll probably make it like a treasure hunt gig for surfboard treasure;) the silverback process is for my flats board fishing surfboard, don’t know if I put pics on here, but the inspired surfboards facebook page has some, old project I’m revisiting right now. Will work great on this build, just spendy on set up. The coating is a polyurea hybrid similar to whats sprayed on the walls at the pentagon. Too heavy for most of what we build on here.
