no stringer

…so here I have this shape about 7 4 x 3 in two halves. I was checking that may be too springy for that length so may be not so good to store energy and may be it snap in a moment without any?
What s your opinions?

Thanks

At 3 inches I think you’d be ok. Maybe put some rail channels on it and call it done.

What is your planned glassing schedule?

I built an 8’ mini-mal 2-3 years ago. 2lb stringerless EPS. Loved it, too bad I sold it. 6 oz bottom, 6-4 deck with 3" wide 8oz fiberglass tape on the rails. Pretty flexy, but it turned soooooo well!

…GregTate: It s a normal density but looks so flexible that I am in doubt…

Parthenonsurfer: could be 3 x 4oz deck and 1 x 4oz down, gloss.

Surfthis: this is PU

I’m by no means a pro, but I think you ccould snap that stringerless board very easy because of your unbalanced layers of cloth from top to bottom. What I mean, is your deck is going to be stiff w/ 12oz & the bottom is only going to have 4 oz to resist in tension (especially if your a “charger” in the lineup). I think you’d be ok with 6 +4 on the decck & 6 om the bottom.

…that unbalanced scheme as you says works like a charm with longboards with stringer/s and 8 ers to provide that snap.

But yes, looks too flexy right now; also as mentioned, I worried abut to lose too much speed.

The board is not for me. I live from this job but I am not affraid to ask if Im in doubt. I do not have the questions and answers for everything…

There’s many options Reverb…perimeter stingers to arrest the lack of centre stringer ? …full impact deck with timber or the right fabric or both ?..maybe just split the blank by hand , sqaure it up, then glue in a stringer ? …why not 3 stringers ?..how about a flush laminated deck springer , glued to your specific deck line ?

…hello Kayu, I do not have a stringer that long right now and I have the shape just squared.

What s exactly a deck springer?

I’ll ask this…

I have this shape about 7 4 x 3 in two halves

So you are going to have a glueline at the very least, Yeah?

My first short board late 68 was a stringerless 7-10, Popz told me “It’s gonna snap”

Never did!

Regarding rebound, I have done a little work on this.

Started with parabolic stringers.

On to GG gluelines and Arrimid fiber.

Just F’n gave up…

Never did try the "inCide blanks.

Do what you know and

don’t be slow.

More glue lines perhaps

…yeah, may be more glue lines; the pvc that I have is short too. Also,  I do not want to go heavy with the glass work.

Maybe sharkcountry or oneula will be lurking and chime in.  Pretty sure they have done more than a few springers.

My understanding is the springer is a horizontal veneer/sheet (wood, bamboo, etc) mid-blank (or maybe one side?).

I have been considering a horizontal mid-blank veneer concept that might be called a springer.

This is one of their builds that made me think springers are inernal:

Hi reverb, go with 3x4oz top and 2x4oz bottom instead 1x4oz, + good laps. In stringerless a too thin (=flexy) skin buckle quickly. Rails need to be strong too, help with overall stiffness,+ stringerless boards are more sensible to skin dings so a small ding on rail and board is fragilized.

…hello Stoneburner, I did not know that this type of build is called “springer”.

Hello Lemat, this is a PU std density so would be too heavy with that glass schedule. With the glue line only seems a bet so may be I need to find the right wood to make an stringer; but that s a bit difficult here because there s no any light wood long enough.

Could one make a clever joint within the stringer wood to make it longer?

Glue lines are just decoration. Provided you color them. Been that done there. Try the rail channels.  About 3/8 + deep. I can guide you on glassing them if you need

All the best

…hello Jrandy, could be but I am not in favour of that method with a 1/8 or 1/4 stringer. Also in my opinion a stringer should be one piece.

Hello Greg, so do you say that glue both parts in the middle then do the rail channels then glass;

No problem with the glassing; I have been glassing them in different combos; thanks

If you’re going to add extra glass, do it to the bottom.  It’s counterintuitive.

Deck springer : thin strips laminated to deck curve of board…example , 1" wide and 1/2 deep …can be made by butt jointing or scarfing pieces shorter than the finished board length…just run a 1/2" deep , 1" wide router cut into the deck , then EPOXY the springer into the board …quite effective for holding lightweight EPS in a desired deck curve , and makes shaping much easier…but principal is the same regardless of the foam used…also good for stabilizing excessive flex in stringerless lightweight foam blanks.
