Looking for guidance on nose and tail thickness for a 9’5" longboard, single fin setup. The board is right at 3.125 thickness at center. I was looking to go with a 1" thickness in the nose and tail, starting approximately 12-24" back from the nose and tail and transitioning to my desired thickness. Looking for recommendations, thanks
Any bottom contours? My favorite LB has a concave nose that ends in a 1/8" hard edge.
Hey JC... Start with 2" @ 12" up from tail and 12" down from nose as a good middle ground (measured at stringer of course). Idea is to have a nice, clean, tapered flow from center thickness to thickness at either end. Remember to leave enough thickness in the tail for fin boxes (unless you're going glass-on), and enough thickness in nose to accommodate concave, if part of the design. Thickness at the last couple of inches of either end is contingent upon shape. For example, some shapers finish the nose with an up-rail shape, while others use a small 50/50 rail shape to finish the nose. So called "wing-nose" is a down-rail shape in the last 4'-6" of the nose. Lots of different ways to go at either end. You should know how each end will be shaped, as this will determine the thickness in the last few inches.
Thanks for the feedback. No bottom contours on this board, just flat. I am going to run to the local surfshop tomorrow and take a look at some of the boards they have in stock to get a better visual on the tail dimensions. TP, you have some really nice shapes on your site.
