Nose/Tail-Workable Widths

Could anyone recommend good nose/tail widths for a 9’6" x 23" x 3" Noserider? I’m shaping this to ride slower waves like the Cove and Old Man’s. I saw a photo in Longboard mag of Takayama carrying a wide-nosed/narrow-tailed board and it looked really interesting. That nose had to be between 19 to 20 inches, while the tail was really narrow, and I think it tapered down into a rounded pin. I just didn’t know how something like that would ride on slower waves. Does combining a wide nose with a narrow tail work okay, as in a 19-inch nose with a 14-inch tail. What would happen? Would I get too much drag? What are the hydrodynamics of the really wide noses? Am I missing some basic concept here? I know Tyler’s Sleek Zeke model has a 19-inch nose, but it has a 16-inch tail to match it. I can’t recall another board that has a nose that wide, although Stewarts’ noses look pretty full, but all seem to have at least a 15- or 16-in tail measurement. Thanks for any advice…

I think that you can not go wrong with a 19" nose for nose rider. I have always like the looks of the Hansen “Competitor”, and I belive that there Nose width is in the 19" area and the tails are around 15". Well that is my 1/4 of a cent opinion.

I agree that a 19" nose on a 9’6" board works great for noseriding. I have a 9’6" Ukulele Drifter with a 19" nose and 15" tail, but it’s a tri-fin. Works great on the nose. My board is a 1999 model,For 2000 the Drifter’s tail for a 9’6" was narrowed to 14.5"-14.75". If you go with a tail width of at least 14.5, you should be OK. Aloha, John

Thanks Guys! Big Help!
