Not enough catalyst help!

Hi, was was laminating a little fish, i dont have too much experience with laminating nor mixing large batches of resin.  So i mixed up half a quart and put 30 drops of catalyst in there.  I wanted to ensure that the resin wouldnt kick fast for max workin time.  But its been about 30-45 min and the stuff shows no signs of kicking.  Am i screwed?  Will it dry eventually if left for 24+ hrs  ?  thanks  Luckly its 80 deg today.

Half a quart and 30 drops of Mekp should kick pretty quickly if you are using Poly.

What type of resin did you use? Poly, Epoxy?

Yes sir poly resin.  I have dark opaque in the resin.  Maybe thats the hold up.  The crap still hasnt kicked at all.   i had a bit of the mix leftover, so i shot a bunch of cat into it and worked it in there with the squeege  and shot a hairdryer at it for a bit.  Maybe that will do the trick.

Crank up the heat, wait and hope.

for a 1/2 quart of resin with opaque on an 80 deg day how much catalyst would you guys have used?

5cc’s

Has it made any attempt to gel up or harden?

20cc is 100 drops so I’m quite a bit off. My second batch that was hot dried right away. Some spots are slightly gelled others are wet. Gonna leave it alone for a while and check on it later.

Just let it sit. It wil dry. I did a board recently and I got so carried away with making the color right, I forgot to add catalyst. Did the whole thing then realized I didn’t add the catalyst. I mixed up another batch of resin and forced it into the lam as much as I could then let it sit for a couple of days. It was an inlay so I was lucky, I added another 2 layers of glass over that and I seem to be OK. It came out looking strange, but it’s OK.

Never measure hardener by drops.

Get a squeeze bottle with CC measuring marks.

Too much pigment will retard the resin causing it to kick slower

You can squeegee a thin coat over it to aid with drying.

I would wait.

I never add pigment without the magic purple secret sauce.

Cobalt.

What’s the magic purple secret sauce???

Cobalt.

That, you measure in drops.

Just a couple.

And never allow it come come in contact with the hardener.

Mix in seperately.

went to go cut the tape today and it was hard as a rock. Lucky save!
