Went to see the Gidget Documentary(Incidental Icon)…it was done well and anyone who is interested in surf history would enjoy it …
Next night we went to see “Going Verticle”…it also was good and it was great to see the interaction among these guys

The board that Brewer has his hand on was brought into the Friday board appraisal event…In the photo, the board laying on the floor is that same board…The owner brought it from Maui…or one of the other islands…and told the story…

He had a Brewer and was riding it a Haleiwa and lost it in a rip…he was crying on the beach and I guess Brewer was there and said not to worry…I will make you another and that evening he made this board for the guy…never did hear what they appraised it at…

the guy on the left was the owner…you can see the yellow pin line on the board…same as the photo…

you can find out what was in the auction and what it sold for with the above link…
this John Kelly redwood plank sold for the most…$42,000…2 years ago it was the Simmons…which sold for $39,000

The list of shapers there would include…Kivlin, Quigg. Yater, Brewer, Lance Carson, Corky Carroll, Greg Knoll, McTavish,George Downing…many more, maybe someone can chime in and continue list…

I could’nt make it but did watch a lot of it on the cable TV feed. Looks like this was one of the most well attended auctions held in Hawaii. Besides the already mentioned shapers, I was stoked to see Ryan Dotson up on the stage as a couple of his boards were auctioned off. I also heard Rich Harbour mentioned too when a gun he shaped was being auctioned. Two boards that I was partial to were twin fins. I could’nt help be amazed at the Ole twin fin longboard circa. 1961 and would love to be able to ride the 5’6" Corky Carroll Spacestick twinnie. I missed the Gidget flick, but was stoked to see you at “Going Vertical”. Didya see me on the freeway this morning?
Hey Derek,
Could not see you through the tinted windows…but thought it might be you…surfed with your mate Jim at Bowls. I did not know he had moved back here…
.Last two days …fun surf with lite crowds…maybe due to jelly fish influx…
Gonna get an early surf this AM…and fly out this afternoon…off to Texas to to fetch my Mexico van and then drive it back to Baja…
Aloha, roge
Looks like a great event for all us ‘surf nerds’.
A couple of my buds from down here have are in Hawaii especially for it - really looking forward to seeing the pics and hearing the stories.
