…It’s not the best wood to bond with polyester resin,epoxy is a bit better.Make sure the wood is completely dry(any wood for that matter),and test it on a scrap or corner first.Generally oak is okay,stay with the lighter color wood(blonds vs red ).I find I have less trouble with them.Maple is the same thing,birch is a little better in the bond catagory.Here’s a tip after you get the block where you want it, shaped,and finished,ruff it up with a piece of 50 or 60 paper,this helps keep the bond to the tighter grained woods better.Herb
I would also coat the wood with a little lam. resin, no glass this will show you if you have a problem with the wood being wet, or having oils in it. After the lam resin has set just glass normaly. I always do this to keep from blowing air into my glass. http://lancecarson.com
