I have an old Weber Performer in my shop that is in really nice condition, it just has a few shatters, scratches, etc. My client wants me to regloss it and polish it.Will this hurt the long run value of it?I really kind of like it the way it is but I leave the vote up to you guys. Also it is missing the old “Wonderbolt” fin and screw. Can you get these anywhere?
Cleanlines- I’m not plugged into the collector market but I would say that a careful polishing is O.K. but a re-gloss would reduce it’s value. As close to original is the rule most collector’s seem to focus on. The “Wonderbolt” is available from Rainbow Dist. (www.rdistributing.com), this is the stainless thumbscrew with the rubber o-ring. I’m betting you are looking for something older though. “Cleanlines!”…If you regloss the board, it will reduce the “value” as a collectable. If the board has no appreciable damage, or major leaks…leave it be (a polish job’s o.k., but even that - in some instances - can reduce the “value”). I put quotation marks around the word value because it is up to the desire of the owner. If the board is to be surfed with regularity and there are “leaking” issues, that’s up to that person. But as with antiques, you meddle and you change the “originality” of the board. I’m with Tom and Steiny on this…No Touch 'em!

Thanks…now I can print these responses and show them to the fool that owns the board. he plans to wall hang it in a Bar.
