Is there any consensus of what are the oldest images of surfing? I have in mind petroglyphs, engravings from the 1700’s… How about the oldest photos of surfing?
Can anyone post them up?

I remember reading about surfing images on clay pots from 200b.c. in Peru.
I’ve always been puzzled by the drawings of people surfing on top of the wave - be it from several hundred years ago to modern day cartoons. Why is that incorrect image so pervasive?
my thoughts. because the surfer is not the artist. maybe the the artist is just trying to recall what he/she saw at the beach that day and didn’t actually understand why or how the depicted surfer was riding the wave. just a thought.
Hi shacked_early!
where did you get the book about ancient surfers?
I hope I can get it on the internet…
Could you please tell me, I’m very interested in it.
Thank you
Stefano
