Olpharts Corner Bing Maui foil Mobley update

Funny 2 me…
Posted this today for “through back” Thursday.
A good looker that worked hard…
“Flashback…
1970 I felt, I needed a change in what I was riding.
A huge leap from Greg Liddle’s goings on at Malibu….
I ran down to Bings and got one of these.
Worked well in overhead waves, got some great sessions in
@ Naples reef and Mary’s.
Ah, but back then, we had the draft and a lottery too boot!
Ha, my # was 2, with no student deferment.
Yeah, you bet !!!
I surfed it with abandon.”

??? am I alone in my dementia…

I remember that time. Deferments gone.
By great fortune, I drew 300. Let my hair grow long and cruised in my old, used Chevy (gasoline @ $0.25-0.32/gallon)
My roomy drew 40 and got his report for physical letter two weeks into his first semester. He hustled his ass to the Air Force ROTC office immediately.
Two years later the draft was gone.

I got my induction notice in March of 1968. Had I been able to stay in school one more year I would have drawn high 200s for the lottery, as I recall. I was 13alpha. But, I got lucky. Stayed state-side, then they kicked me out for being “administratively unfit for retention”. I did 1.3 years and never left the US. Got out just in time for the Summer of '69. Spent that Summer living in a van on Cape Cod and doing nothing but surfing and ingesting ‘substances’.

Yeah,
The draft,
By that time, lotto was how new “bodies” got shipped out…
Like a lot of others, my neighborhood was full of those
that, didn’t come back.
And like a cornered animal,
It was flight or fight…
sammyA,
You and the voyeurs may find this interesting…
South Bay, small town lure

No facts… But, it always struck me funny how similar Dick Mobley’s “egg” was to the Maui foil.
