Geez, and I thought I was near the grassroots mountain biking movement, riding around '85 at MtTam watching the likes of Murray, Tomac, Fisher, sometimes even Overland, just cruise by uphill in the middle chainring relaxed, while I strugged in granny gear....
My best time up Edredge grade was soooo slow that they went up to the top, all the way down, and halfway back up passing me again. 1hour 12 minutes was my best, and my buds around 44 minutes. Don't know what the guys I mentioned did, as they weren't exactly hanging around with me, but I'd guess in the high 30 minute marks, 5.7 miles.
While I love talking about surfboards… sometimes treading off topic can be plenty fun too. And motorcycles are as good of an off topic subject as any.
The trails on the North Shore are excellent and many well known surfers are among those who ride here. Not the least of which was Ronnie Burns, whom passed away while on a solo ride in the mountains above Velzyland. Life is rough sometimes…
And fate throws a lot of curve balls over the course of a lifetime. My ex-sander Greg is an avid rider and has transfered that passion to his young son Thor, who though only 6 years old, is currently rated 20th in the nation in motocross. Yet sadly, Greg’s older son Ronnie, who was named after Ronnie Burns, was just killed in an automobile accident. Send your prayers their way as it is a tough time for them at the moment.
Below is a photo of Thor and I with his first new surfboard I am making him. He is just starting to surf but will likely be a fast learner and notable in no time at all. And he is already sponsored by FOX!

Kunia cane fields, red dirt dust bowls and DEA choppers, Wainae valley, Makakilo, the point, durians the size of large watermelons. Let’s go get some korean lunch plates in Millilani.
My last bike I owned on Oahu, street legal too. And good on gas.
44th and Taraval. If you remember the huge collection of driftwood along the high tide line that once extended from Sloat north catching fire and burning for 3 days in the early 60’s, that was my cousin and me…so much for our first cigar smoking experiment…lol
Ossa Pioneer 250…used to enjoy hill climbing at one time…decided I’d rather hit water then hardpack.
talk about torque…when I was 15 old a biker dude up the street had a 441 and a Triumph 650 Bonneville…he used to let me ride the 441 occasionally, bastard could pull like an ox…kept asking to ride the Bonneville…finally one day he said if you can kick start it, you can ride it…weighed about 135# sopping wet… for the life of me could not kick start the bastard, too damn much compression for a scrawny fella…
I practicly grew up on a 1969 Yamaha AT125 identical to the one pictured below. I was on this thing just about every day after school from middle school until college. Its still sitting in my parent’s garage. My son is soon old enough to ride it and I will probably dig it out soon and get it running. The biggest problem is that riding is pretty much a crime here now. Its a shame. People would rather kids sit in front of video games pretending to do something rather than getting out there and actually doing something.
By the way you can watch the movie for free at this link on Hulu.
