One Shot Lettering Enamel for Pinlines

Whats the secret, I know Peter St. Pierre uses One shot for pinlines. The few times i tried it out, the line took way longer than the 8 hours to dry. Is that because i did not thin it out with reducer? Do I have to gloss over them, and if I gloss, the enamel is oil based so the resin will desolve it. Whats the secret? I can do Resin Pinlines no problem, Acrylic is crappy looking. Poscas are too difficult to get a perfict opacity. I just want an easier way.

wow.  Nice work, Barry.

we use the spray cans… tape… fine tip… gloss over

Montana spray cans? I know montana paint pens work under gloss, they are water based, but do they have a one shot style paint to use with a pinline brush?

I’ve used One Shot a few times for pinlines. Works great, I do it on top of the sanded hot coat, then go over the board with an acrylic type sealer to add some shine. Looks good, not as nice as resin pins under a gloss but still looks good. I just tape off my lines, thin it a bit and lay it down, super easy. It takes a bit to dry but no biggie.

montana cans

Nutter, I’ve used One-Shot on top of polished board. Looks cool like a hot-rod style. It needs a smooth surface to look clean. It should dry in a couple hours. Reducer just thins it out to pull long lines with a stripers brush. But you can’t gloss over the stuff. Yes, it is oil based and will dissolve. If you can tape for resin pinlines, just spray them.Thats my my go-to pinline method. Nova-Color Carbon Black paint. I do black, white any color you can mix. Sometimes I break out my Pearlesent colors and go wild. You can wipe on Acrylic paint in place of spraying. Just use a soft flexible squeegee to apply. Then pull tape. All these boards were sprayed with Acrylic paint.

Good luck,

Right on, Thank you for the insight.

Barry knows best on this one, so I would follow his advice.

Hey Korynutter,

It can be done, you just have to rethink the process.
