O'Neal- Morning Star Model

Hello , Does any one remember this model Board . I had one back in the 70’s and it had these “turned down” rails all the way around . Trying to remember more about it . Rockers- How hard were those rails ,etc. It sure seemed to work good . But then I was a lot younger. It was a gun type outline . Flat bottom? Thinking of having another one made and using some of the design features from it ? Can anyone help me with the specs?? Thanks Aloha

I think Morning Star was an aussie label. Check surfsearch.

Morningstar was a company in aus.Col Smith was the shaper, good goofyfoot . Also Dave Pau had a Morningstar shop in Santa Barbara. But that was a Oneill model, nice transition board, cool acid splash foamstains.I remember hardtail to 50/50 rails with Sdeck but in that time things were changing every 2 wks.

I saw the ads with acid splash glassing, wide point forward of center as was the current design of the time, with wide round tails. By memory the widths would be something like 15-22-14, single fins of course. I never saw one in person, suspect they were magazine specials and who knows how many were made. Some hybrids nowadays would approach the plan shape, but with different foil.

I have an ONeill Morning Star stored away 75 miles down the coast. It was made by ONeill Surfboards- Santa Cruz, CA, Im not sure of the shapers name anymore. It was shaped/glassed based on my suggested specs when I was 15 years old (1968)… a 7-2", single fin (Greenough Stage 4- plastic), roundtail, rolled bottom- flat in tail, glassed light and clear, sub 3" thickness, full planshape, softly domed deck, smooth minimal rocker, thin egg rails- low in tail, high in nose, etc. It worked very well in powerful jetty waves. ONeill made some nice boards during that time.
