Open letter to Greg Loher: Thanks for the new design

Someone asked a couple of posts back who was doing timberflex…Firewire have a timber flex style board and Surftechs Ultra flex is using the HD rail idea…I haven’t ridden either of these boards but they look good

for retail

I dont think carbon on the rails is a good idea.

so ... now that I have read this entire thread.. I have some what of an Idea what you are all talking about, but where can I get more info on all this.

Pretty much what I gathered of the timberflex scheme is the seperation of rail and core. then layering with a veneer top and bottom. However, some of you are taking different approachs by only strengthing the rails.

When I first started shaping/glassing I would add lam tape on my rails figured it would make it stronger. But i have no clue how this can have an affect on the way the board rides.

am I way off here? guessing I need more info to read to get a better grasp of this concept.

hi Tuf, generally speaking, more glass on the rail = stiffer board.

whether that's a good thing or bad thing is up to you
