why do you bother so much about a quad?just make a thruster...I don't think that a quad rounded pin is exactly what your board wants to be.

Not too worried about the bother or hassle, I would prefer to put in the extra work and have a board that works well.
I have tried a few quads and really like the speed and feel of them compared to thrusters.
Similarly haved tried a few round pins and I liked those too, when i saw the board above it seemed like a good combo, I just dont want to go down the swallow tail/fish/bat tail road.
Any ideas on what way to go to make my board more quad like?

Make the board however you want mate, dont listen to people telling you what your board should be. THat skinny bullet is a quad isnt it??. If you like round pins, and you like quads, looks like you're on the right track.
I recently made a board much like this one is shaping up to be, made it a quad with the extra box for the thruster option. I haven’t tried it much as a thruster yet but I intend to put in a few weeks surfing it thruster for the full comparison. Mine turned into my favourite shortboard; I’ll see if I have the pdf file on my home computer still and if so I will try to send it to you. you can see a pic of it on the ‘show us your resin tints and paterns’ thread, second last page. There are three boards in the pic; the shortboard is on the far right.
Hey moosejoose, just checked in at my computer at home. Unfortunately the pdf of my board is long gone, lost in my hard drive crash. Couldn’t remember if it was claimed or not. But here is the photo of the one I made. Mine is 6’3" and with a rocker (lots of it) aimed at a steep, sometimes slabby wave. It still seems to go pretty well on the mushier stuff that we get a bit more of around here though; I think in that stuff the fact that it’s a quad really helps it out!
It’s 6’3"x19.5"x2.24". mmm and as you can see I ended up morphing it into a tailshape somewhere in between rounded pin and thumb … a bit of a weird thing but it feels good.
Hope you find the right combo; I say go for it all guns blazing!
Make you plan shape longer. right now even at 19 wide it looks too fat. Look at the Bourton? whatever that is....and then look at your shape. The Bourton is a much more fluid shape and would be easier to ride. Your shape is a bit on the curvy side. Either widen the tail, or pull in the width.
Make a board by the way it looks and feels...not by trying to squeeze in a particular number. A surfboard outline make or bereak is in the first 18" of the nose, and the last 18" of the tail. In AKU use less waypoints to get better curves in the nose and tail.
Anybody can say make me a 6'0" x 19" x 2 1/2"....but as you know the nose and tail will make or break it. There are so many different variables.
I think you need to work on the nose area of your board 11" +- is too narrow, Look at what a 12 " nose would do to the outline, then you can pull the tail in to about 13 ---13 1/2....specially if your making it a quad. Pull the volume a bit less behind center.
Bulkley’s roundtail quads (hipsters ?) are beautiful.
Mark Pridmore who posts here , has been developing a r nd tl quad model he calls the ‘quadfather’, do a search here or just google it , you might glean some tips.
You don’t mention the wave type you’re designing for ,but my impression is on quads you push the tail a bit wider than you might otherwise.
I shaped a 6’6" x 20" shortboard for a friend of mine last March. He’s a bigger guy so I gave him plenty of volume, but thinned out the rails. He wanted it set up with five fins so he could ride it as a quad or a thruster. I used the McKee formula with a slight alteration to the back fins. He absolutely loves the board as a quad. It has a wider thumb/round tail that seems to work well in keeping him on the face of the wave. I got to ride it yesterday in small waves as a thruster and it was pretty easy to catch waves.
The five fin set up is really great and gives you a lot of versatility.
