opinions on how this glass work is done

Hello all, Im not new with the glassing stuff however I want to know your opinions about these types of works with panels, etc.

In this case (pict found in internet), it is done as panels but looks like was done on the lamination (after the lam kicked) not over the hot coat. in a cheater coat may be then hot coated and carefully sanded? then finish coat?

Classic!  I just asked the same question but in a different place.

Lot’s of glitter thrown in the tinted lam.  If it looks too “salt and Peppa” ;  throw even more in the hotcoat.

looks like a giant fishing lure…

A giant fishing lure to attract giant fishies.

Fiberglass Hawaii has what you need to do the glitter glass job.

There is no glitter on the stringer…

Either some mega skills or Id say its after the inital lam at some stage in the game.

Many ways to do it though.

I’d love a board with that big chunky glitter they put in dune buggies and ski boats back in the 70s.

Please Somebody make a tutorial on how it’s done!

Super 77 your blank, sprinkle on the glitter then glass as normal.  On either a painted blank or with tinted resin.

The top is after sanded hotcoat and before gloss. Clear resin with TONS of glitter. Hit again lightly and then glossed.

The bottom is a tinted lam.

Probably sprayed on the hot coat.

Tape off stringer,

mix in with clear acrylic.

Spray.

Gloss and polish.

Done it many times.

Nice if done sparingly.

That’s a little much.

Many ways to skin this cat. Two or three were mentioned in above posts by others.  Myself and a few others started messing around with glitter in the early 90’s primarily in the lam and sometimes over painted blanks.  It had been done before.  I like the “77” method, but I personally have never used “77” under resin.  Sounds like it would work though.  One thing for sure;  It always takes way more glitter than you would think.

Glitter boards are for Girlie Men.

Don’t hold back Atomized tell us how you made it! It must be yours because even googling “pink Liberace surfboard” doesn’t return that image

But to your point let’s call it metal flake!

In the late 60s early 70s I did a lot of those , I am sure there are other ways but this is what I did , you dont need any special equipment or spray guns etc , when the blank is ready to glass paint on a catalized coat of resin and simply shake on the glitter , it will stick to the resin and you can put on as much as you like , when the resin kicks you can shake off any surplus glitter . When doing the bottom of the board do the rails first deck side up making sure you have taped off and covered the deck then turn the board over the the glitter will stay stuck to the rails and then shake the glitter on the bottom , How do you turn it over with sticky resin on the blank ? we tapped a small nail into the stringer at each end and used it to support the blank as we turned it over , dont forget to remove the nails before glassing .  If you dont want glitter on the stringer tape it off in fact tape off anything you dont want glitter on it gets everywhere . Glass as usual  , the glitter weighs practicaly nothing but you may end up with a little more resin in the lam . because the glitter is under the cloth there are no problems sanding and polishing , we used automotive  glitter at the time but it is now available from other suppliers , you can mix diff colour glitters to get a custom look but my fav was an all silver glitter board .  Hope this helps Good luck.
