I’m a beginner shaper with 5 builds done so far looking for ways to help improve my designs. I figured why not try AI to generate some builds based on tried and true designs. I don’t know enough about the intricacies of surfboard design or hydrodynamics to tell if these are viable or not. I don’t expect anyone to tell me if every measurement is correct just an overall analysis. Thanks yall
These are the outline templates followed by the AI Build Sheets
AI is definitely useful as a tool for pulling information from the internet and summarizing pretty concisely.
A surfboard blank catalog is also a useful tool for rockers and foil, pretty much every blank is within shaping distance of a real surfboard, if you know what I mean.
planshapes can be copied from a real board, or drawn from your mind or your memory, there are a variety of ways to get a smooth curve.
Without looking I can tell you anything AI generated is probably gonna be viable and useful. Just gotta pick the one you like best and find the appropriate blank to get it from.
I like the summaries a lot. Not the numbers perse, I cant tell you if that works, but the information mentioned on one specific sheet is nice as a reference card.
You mentioned you want to further your designs, did you shape 5 boards of the same model? Itterations are very helpful in improving a board design. If you make the boards for yourself it becomes even more practical, getting feedback is easy. If you want to appeal to a broader audience, let friends borrow you current designs and get feedback from them.
If you dont know what to do in order to tackle a point of feedback on the board, search the forums or ask.
Keep in mind AI, especially the large language models like chatgpt, are predictions on what you want to know, often becoming very general.
