AA decided to smash my board up on the way back from Costa Rica. One of the dings was a tail smash. I’ve removed the broken glass and sanded a little (as you can see in the attached pics). A friend has suggested I can just tape it off and create a resin only cap for the repair. However, I’ve also seen others suggest foam cut to shape, stuck on and glassed.
What would you all recommend for a ding like this? This is my first repair, hence my newbie question (please be nice :). Any advice appreciated as I want to learn!
It looks small enought to use resin/filler and then glass. Chunk of foam would work too but i tend to go that direction with larger jobs. Overfill with your resin/filler mix and right before it sets you can shape it down with a razor blade to about 90% it’s final shape. Don’t try to razorblade it too early or you’ll rip it straight off the tip. Just us a little tape dam and get the resin/filler to the consistency of cold honey (still needs to flow though).
I don’t actually have any foam right now, so I’ll give the resin/filler suggestion a go and see how that works. With the glass, I was going to go about 1 cm larger than the edge. Does that sound about right? Also, with an awkward shaped fix like this, do you go for a single piece of glass with cuts or multiple pieces? Maybe I’m overthinking this
