Hey fellow Sways, looking into the “orange” PU foam from US or similar.
**ORANGE, **approximately 12% - 13% lighter than BLUE. Currently only available in short boards.
RED, approximately 6% - 7% lighter than BLUE.
Using red currently and have learned a lot in shaping and glassing.
That said here is my question(s).
How much slower should I expect to have to go and is it more trouble with ripping?
I can only assume that density is weak but how much?
Having, taken the red blank down to single 4oz bottom and 1 ¾ 4oz deck with some Vector net 227 and Vector Net XP 138 - 1/2" Triaxial for a little extra support in critical spots. I am hoping to save some weight in the blank which can become a stronger lam.
BTW investigating ESP/epoxy like a hungry school kid. Just hard to change!
The only orange I’ve seen to date is Arctic’s Orange. They had several Orange blanks at the board show in Del Mar. If it is the Arctic you will have no problems with tearing. Even density throughout. US Blanks was at the show as well> No Orange.
Hi Matty haven’t tried orange foam or eps, but went with epoxy five yrs ago when I made my first board, and never looked back. Before that my experience was strictly poly - doing ding repair mainly.
Wish surfding was still posting, he explored the options and posted results. A lot of it was over my head at the time. I have friend who thinks eps / epoxy best for strength / lightness.
guys on here say vac bagged veneer over eps is best yet, I haven’t been inclined to take that road yet myself, but I respect the results Ive seen Posted on here.
For more on your question there are several people I know who use Orange/pink etc and lam a poly 6/4/6 on it. for the reason you are mentioning. We use it for our poly epoxies and use a 646 glassing schedule on that as well. no slowing in shape time. it actually is probably a bit faster because it sands faster
Ya know I was at FGH rummaging thru the blanks saw a parabolic in the seconds and grabbed it (thinking PU) gezz!!! So light so how come the finished product is IMO =?
Hey I can dig everysurfer’s stuff but it is just too complex for us “on our last time around” to become accomplished at, ah, before we have to kick out.
PM’d surfding and got some simple but informative advice on EPS/XPS and (pardon my pun) you are my “Huckleberry” for epoxy lessons HA!!!
Just got few more boards rattling around here and thank God a little $$$ for blanks…
