I had somebody ask me this at the beach the other day and didn’t have an answer.
If you surf with your right foot in front you describe yourself as goofy foot . This term has been around a long time but where did it come from? Why is left foot forward considered regular ?

when the cartoonists at disney
portrayed Art linkletter surfing
they chose to use the character goofy
as a joke because they were amused
that he always had his back to the wave.
all the waves portrayed
nobody dropped in
because of early S.A.G. contractural agreements.
the only actors allowed to drop in were stunt men.
this was all turned arround when John Millius negotiated with
shaper ,surfer, actors,for promotional consideration
and a share of their life income.

goofy faces his torso into the apparent wind
in order to keep his ears out of his eyes.
Aerodynamix in his core being.

He’s in the middle of a cross-step.
