It all depends on what level of dining you want, and what type like Italian, Mexican, Japanese, etc. You can get it all and some of the best restaurants are in or near Waikiki.

Kapahulu Ave. is the last street heading up towards the mountains, just before the zoo. There are all kinds of reasonably priced eating places along that stretch of road. You can get good Hawaiian food too.

If you are really hungry, you can go to the buffets at the Hawaii Prince Hotel, Tsukiji Fish Market in Ala Moana Center, or Todai. Little bit on the pricey side, but really good food and all you can eat.

Maui--------------Best local griinds----------------------- Da Kitchen in Kihei.  Especially for a dish known as Chicken Katsu.  Outrageous good.  Say Hi! to Ken, the skinny Yankee fan back there in Da Kitchen flippin' your chicken on the grill.  Best Katsu on the Island.  Even better than their sister restaurant in Kahului.

Cheers for the replies people, they’ll be eating well!.

By the way----------There's a really good Japanese restaurant a couple of streets up from the main drag in Waikiki(King st. maybe).  You gotta take off your shoes and sit at one of those low tables on the floor.  Wish I could remember the name.  Be sure to try some Island Poke at Safeway or somewhere good.  Saimin is also outta this world (noodle type soup and broth).  Lots of local diners serve it.  If you go out to the swap meet at the stadium get a little cuttle fish to snack on.

Maui, Honokowai Okazuya ,chicken katsu don. Star noodles, more than noodles.  Waikiki, The Yard house on Lewers st. ask for the sweet potatoe fries it’s not on the menu

Be sure to have Linguisa, Eggs, and Rice, for breakfast.  Da bes'!   I second the Cuttlefish.   Also wet Li Hing Mui, as a snack.  How I miss it.
