I’m graduating university this year, and my dad and I are wanting to plan a vacation together (non-surf) for three weeks sometime in January or February. I had originally thought about Thailand, but it’s monsoon season at that time.
I’d like to go somewhere outside Europe or South America. So I guess I’m thinking Asia/India… but I’m open to anything. My dad is suggesting the Phillipines. He’s a pretty seasoned traveller and is used to roughing it, so we don’t usually look for anything fancy.
Just wondered if you guys had any experience/suggestions?
That time of year, you might like Ecuador. With 3 weeks, you have time to do several days in the Amazon basin, several days up in Quito (great city) and climbing 19,000’ volcanoes if you want, several days down at the coast (there’s surf, if you want it, and Guayaquil is fun) and even time to fly out to the Galapagos. The wildlife variety within that country and those different parts of it is spectacular, from macaws, caiman, howler monkeys, and tapirs in the Amazon to iguanas, sea lions, and birds of the Galapagos, you won’t forget it.
I guess the only downside is that I see you’re coming from Florida… so the language & parts of the tropics might not be as novel to you as they’d be if you were coming from Chicago.
Jan and Feb is the cool season and best time for India. Parts of india can be pretty heavy though. Just depends where you go and what transport you use.
Unfortunately Nepal is cloudy at that time, Sep-Nov or April-May are the best times for taking a quick trek around the Annapurna’s or a Russian chopper to Lukla and walk up to Everest base camp.
