Our Boy Nate Yeomans...

Is going all for broke on the WQS this season. We think he’s got a good chance on making the WCT. What do you guys think? The kid’s got some great style and speed.

He would make more money in Hollywood!

Nate does have star quality. Should make movies instead of the tour.

He may make it this year? However it’s a very tight race his chances are looking better with each event.

It depends on how he charges the North Shore during the Triple Crown if he wants to make the WCT?

One of the best surfers from San Diego Area.

another SD surfer on the WCT would be really good to see. HB has Brett Simpson qualifying and who else is getting on tour from Southern California, one of the Gudauskas brothers, right?

I wonder just how attractive the WCT is going to be to spectators when Kelly finally retires?

Like in Golf you had Jack Nicklelas, Greg Norman - Now you have Tiger.

In Basketball we had Jerry West, Dr J, Wilt Camberlin, Michael Jordan - Now Kobe Bryant

Surfing has had greats as well - Miki Dora, Gerry Lopez, Shaun Thomson, MR, Tom Curren - Now Kelly Slater

We will always be intrigued by Sports figures that have made great achivements or benchmarked their perpective sport.

There is so much talent on the WQS and the WCT I don’t see it ever getting boring from this point forward.

Surfing today is getting more and more refine. There will be others after Kelly. He definitely will be hard to replace.

However I enjoy watching Andy, Dane, Bobby, Reyes, Mick, Parko, Knox, Bruce, Morrison & Taj just the same.

I would like to see Andy get another title. He’s has it burried somewhere inside.

At the moment he is making everyone else look pretty second rate.

With all due respect can’t see these new qualifiers making much difference to that.

Looks like its his (Slaters)title to lose for the forseeable future.

Steve

he’s going to be 36 or 37 yrs old this year and he’s blowing away guys that are 17yrs younger than him. I heard him say on one of his interviews at this past J-bay contest that he feels like he hasn’t quite peaked yet. Very inspiring stuff to hear.

If you watch him surf, he looks just like he’s so much more committed to every turn where as most of the other guys will do one big blast and then work a couple of smaller ones.

True!

Zane Harrison.

791 competitors on the WQS

Nate’s the man. But he’s from San Clemente, not San Diego.

Sorry!

I have been watching him surf since the NSSA days. I thought he was from North San Diego? I stand corrected.

I alway had Nate stereo typed in the same group as: Dane Johnson, Che Stang, Ian Rotgans

Since he rides for RUSTY I asumed he lived south of Oceanside?

However I do remember him surfing at Salt Creek alot doing photo shoots with FLAME before his passing.

Thanks for the correction.

Yeah but how many have one in good sunset

It will be one of the North Shore Boy’s for sure this year. Makua? Carrol? Brett Simpson could if his focus is on? However the Odds are for a Local.

It’s rare for a mainlander to win Sunset.

Australians win regulary

Parko is one of the best at Sunset from OZ! Yes the Ausies normally do better than the mainlanders.

Gary Elkerton, Micheal Barry, Zane Harrison, Tom Carroll ect , ect

About 7 years ago I was surfing some pretty large Sunset (West Peak was going off).

Tom Carroll was ripping on his backhand.

However Lisa Anderson was the standout of the day as she was charging as hard as any man out there only with a smoother relaxed style.

It was macking Sunset with the inside just bowling. She got the deepest barrel of the day. Put everyone to shame.

Peter Cole was 70 years old at the time and was surfing it without a leash. He caught some really big bombs.

Some of the local North Shore Kids were on little boards on the inside taking it on the head when the step latter sets came in just to get shacked on the inside pre-sets. Tuff Kids! These kids are now on the WQS and on the set waves now. They cut there teeth and paid their dues. This is the year the North Shore Crew will dominate the Triple Crown and upset many WQS leaders. The preparation has been going on for the last ten years. The guy’s that dominate the blown up at the beach breaks will be hard pressed to have a good showing in real surf. The North Shore is the real deal.

Gary Elkerton, Micheal Barry, Zane Harrison, Tom Carroll ect , ect

Yes these guy’s are all rippers. They all surf Sunset well.

Back in 1979 - 1982 while living on the North Shore I was out at Pipeline when Simon Anderson paddled out on a thruster and just smoked everyone.

There were some really famous guy’s out there at the time. Don’t want to drop names in case I run into someone that was out that winter. I think it was the winter of 81? (Not sure, Life was a blur at the time) He was so many times better than anyone on the planet! To go off the bottom as he did and slash the top was beyond the imagination. At the time we were all riding Single fin pintails. So if your going to wave the Aussie Flag and drop the big names you better not forget your countries most talented surfer shaper. I have a lot of respect for Simmon and what he as brought to surfing.

Concerning Nate and the WQS:

Nate is a very hard working talent and I wish him the best.

There will be some upsets this year for sure!

Don’t put money on anyone right now as there is a lot of events still to be completed.
