where can i see you surf? i want to see a noserider. the board and the rider, preferably the board shaped by the rider. how can i contact you while on vacation in s. cal?
I skin first. That way, when I go back to clean up my outline (I always cut to the outside of the outline to leave 1/32" for error), I don’t discover that I’ve skinned off the original pencil line. Happy New Year.
Surfhungry: I used to outline then skin, my reasoning was that it was just less skinning to do. I hate skinning blanks. Now I prefer to skin, bring my blank to thickness and foil the blank before outlining. It would seem that the actual outline of the finished board is much further from the surface of the foam than the skin and therefore the closer I am to my finished thickness the truer the outline will be. A square cut when outlining has to be emphasized as well. Tom S.

I agree with Tom Sterne.Pre foiling makes it a lot easier.I go ahead and cut the blank to length before anything.Clean up outline with planer.Use surform only for the end of nose and tail…R.B.
when you use the surform is it mainly on “green” density boards? i have only done super-blue blanks and i can’t get the surform to shave smoothly w/o ripping chunks out///////////is there a trick to it???

i usually skin the bottom only first and leave the deck. i seem to be able to take less foam from the top in the long run and leave a stronger deck. after i foil the front and put in rail bands i still end up with the area under the front foot barely touched. this is on shortboards with close tol. blanks.
