having problems with transfering my shape to the other side, got any tricks or tips. ive been drawing them out on card board and then getting the straightest edge and linin git up with that, but it just doesnt look right maybe i should just trust myself, but anyway any good hints would be awesome.
What I do is print off a template that is really 1/2 of the board, or a part of the board on 1 side of the stringer. Line it up with the stringer, trace, then flip over and repeat. Remember, if you are doing these for recreation if either side is a little bit off it is not going to make that much of a difference, if it all, how the board rides. Most importantly don’t stress too much over this part. This was probably one of the most frustrating parts of shaping my board. DONT OVER ANALYZE IT!!! You will go crazy haha
never use cardboard. Ever. the corrugation is going to give you a bumpy outline. even measuring and templating on to the other side is more accurate. spend a few bucks and buy a sheet of masonite or door skins if you want a super nice template. if templating with masonite, make sure you use a light colored marking utensil. If you want a cheap method but not nearly as good, the long sheets of butcher paper are functional.
I use red rosin paper. It’s stiff, inexpensive (compared to masonite, etc.), readily available, and you can use it to cover your floor.
Use it once then toss it.
