Packing surfcraft for shipping

I’ve packed and shipped everything from 46" belly boards to 9-6 LBs using this technique. I’ve shipped to destinations as far away as Germany and Australia, and both Coasts of the US, and I’ve used shippers from Amtrak to UPS to Shipito. Never had a board arrive dinged or damaged in any way. Here’s how I do it:  http://thomaspatricksurfboards.com/shipping-a-surfboard/

Impressive, to say the least.     Simple and effective.      Points given, for that tidbit.

I suppose you could glue up the packing foam boards to a stringer and make a board too.

thanks for sharing

nice! i do something similar. have also used pool noodles and rail offcuts to pack the sides. for more than one board, the seran type stretch wrap is really good to keep them tight together

Nice, seems like the Board should survive. How close is an Amtrak drop off to your shop? Checked out your web page and you are building some nice looking boards.

Looks good… how much does the box cost?

Good idea.

artz - thanks for the compliment. Closest Amtrak station is Oxnard, CA 40 min away. They will handle frieght up to 7ft in length. Over 7ft but under 10ft, and I have to go to the LA Amtrak station (Union Station) which is a 4hr round trip. I charge mileage for that one. Amtrak ships to the closes station to you that handles frieght. Not all Amtrak Stations do.

Crisp - the box is specifically made for shipping surfboards, and the 10’x24"x7" box is about $20. There are other sizes available.
