Paddle Board Creation/recreation

Whats the happening everyone??? need some professional input. The beach patrol i work for ordered these 2 paddle boards from a name i will not disclose. Needless to say the 12’ races boards we wanted turned into 13’ X 26" wide X 6" thick. LEMONS!!! Cameras are at CVS getting developed … i will post when i get them back. I stripped the glassed, cut it down to a 10’6" and am reshaping. The blank of course is EPS and i have shaped EPS before. but the question is…Being the board will yeild 5" thick with 3x6oz on the deck with epoxy… do i need a stringer. Other paddle boards i have repaired, broke, and have seen get mutilated never had stringers.

Any input would be awsome!!

At 10’6", I am assuming they are for the surf zone. A stringer will only help! I am helping a buddy do a 19’7" and he installed a stringer. It added a substantial amount of stiffness. It also helps set and keep rocker. If you are using a hot wire, a stringer will act as a “guide”.

Gary , is there something weird going on in Newport ?

you’ve got a 13’er , Dave’s got a 4’10 single fin ‘bonzer’ , and your mate has a 19’er ???

… don’t drink the water in Newport !!

ben

yeah the 10’6" is for in and out of surf zone. thanks for the advice. I actually started shaping it this afternoon. to get my basic shape cutting 2 1/2 feet off the beast. still considering the stinger option. what type of wood did you use for the 19’er

i am also installing handles straps, any suggestions of the best method for the anchors. Footstrap anchors? possibly?? it was the only thing i found on fiberglass supply.

Having done some paddleboard work in the past -

the footstrap anchors will work fine. Indeed, so will the footstraps, they make pretty good handles. Set them on a reinforcing patch like you would a glass-on fin.

Ahmmm… depending on who you guys ordered said boards from, might have been cheaper to send 'em back and start over.

hope that’s of use

doc…

yo doc,

thanks… i figured i could sink the foot strap anchors and use nylon strapping with stainless steel screws and washers???

oh yeah and sending them back was not an option, the man seemed to go insane, and if we sent them back we were afraid we wouldnt get the boards back, the money back, let alone he practically disappeared off the face of the earth.

so on the expense of the beach patrol i have a nice little project
