painting a longboard

I'm fixing up an old performer longboard. I'm planning on doing a hot coat but I want to paint it also. What's the best way to paint an old board that won't wear away.I was gonna paint it then hot coat but was told that a layer of paint might cause the hotcoat to pull away from the board.  Any suggestions

There are a couple of ways to do the type of "restoration" you talking about.  1-------Paint and gloss, wet and dry, then polish.  Be careful not to burn thru when sanding and damage your paint.   2--------The method I like the best;  Paint and glass with a layer of four ounce, hotcoat, gloss and polish.  Be sure to sand the board to at least 220 before doing either method.
