So i am restoring an old hobie for my dad for father’s day. The problem is, is that I thought I would use white pigmented resin to cover all the brown and ugliness of the board, but it isn’t opaque enough and after two coats, you can still see the dark brown repairs. So I was wondering if I could use a type of white paint that would be thicker and more opaque to cover the board, then hotcoat over top of it. Is this something that I can do or will the resin not adhere?
How bout a white foam stain with white pigment andresin mix, then a white pigment lam job then a white hot coat then a clear gloss. that should be opaque enough....I think.
Flat acrylic paint of the type used to paint a room. Hotcoat your repair, then sand and fill as necessry. Nice smooth surface. Tape off and paint. Then gloss by hand or spray with a water based clear. If you gloss by hand and then rub out; be careful wetand dry sanding at the rail. Dont sand thru the gloss. Easily done. I have done alot of boards using this method.
Been there, done that. With less than stellar results. Opaque white does not cover dark spots well, at all. Witness any white opaque lam you’ve seen where the stringer is still very visible.
I have gotten good results for covering ugly bits by using epoxy spray paint. Covers far better than opaque resin jobs.
